The Skinny on Fats

———————————————————————-

[ Editor's Note:  Fitness author Jon Benson shared this letter with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

Let’s get this one out in the open:

1. Fats do not make you gain bodyfat.

2. Fats do not put you on Heart Attack Row.

3. Fats are not the enemy.

We’ve been sold a bag of lies when it comes to fats.

Fats are essential for your body’s hormone production, skin health, absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, and even burning bodyfat. Yep… you need fats to burn fat.!

Studies have been conducted to attempt to elevate cholesterol levels using high-fat diets. Most all of them have failed miserably — in fact several “lowered” total cholesterol while raising the so-called “good” cholesterol (HDL).

That being said, you don’t need the following…

1. A lot of fats in your diet. Fats still contain over twice the calories per gram as carbs and protein.

2. Any kind of “fake fats” — margarine or processed oils of any kind are highly dangerous foods.

Here’s my simple dietary fats solution:

1. Eat fats as they occur in nature, but eat at least 80% as they “actually” occur in nature — meaning from grass-fed and free-range sources. The extra cost is worth it. It tastes better and your medical costs will well offset the few dollars more per pound you pay.

2. Cook with a combination of olive oil and coconut oil, but use both sparingly. If you are eating plenty of animal protein you do not need excessive fats… not because of ‘danger’ but because of needless calories. Not a good idea if you’re wanting to keep your abs. But a bit of raw butter or olive oil can make bland veggies taste wonderful, so feel freee.

Also, omega 3-rich fats like olive oil and fish (and especially fish oil) help lower inflammation. That’s the real culprit behind heart disease in most cases.

3. Avoid a lot of fats at night. The night-time meals should be high in lean protein (tuna, tofu, turkey breast) with very limited fats if you are wanting to really get lean. If you are just trying to shed bodyweight slowly, it’s okay to have some fats at night.

Just do me a favor: If you are on the “Fats make you gain bodyfat and have heart attacks” bandwagon, jump off. We have consumed fat for countless thousands of years. Just consume it the way we always HAVE (naturally, not stuffed with hormones and cooked up in a lab) and you’ll be fine.

If you want a diet-solution that actually uses dietary fats to help you take off the bodyfat, then use this one:

http://losevisceralfat.net/fats <— Eat Fats, Burn Bodyfat!

It’s a real-world plan that allows you to eat your favorite foods and still shed the bodyweight you want.

And yes — that includes fats.

[ Editor's Note:  Fitness author Jon Benson shared this letter with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

It’s the spice of life.

Food that is. Or opinions. I guess there is a lot of things that are officially “the spice of life.”

I think spices are the spice of life.

I have a new-found love of spices since hanging around a killer healthy-food chef for the past week.

Wow oh wow… I had no idea.

And hey — I’m helping her put her recipes into to a book that will be out soon.

I’ll send you all a video of this woman doing her thing too in a week or so… prepare to be blown away.

Back to spices:

Not only can spices save an otherwise boring healthy meal…. turns to find out spices can help you burn more bodyfat.

The January 2006 issue of The Journal of Physiology and Behavior cited numerous studies on several spices that increased thermogenesis in the body.

Thermogenesis is simply heat — and since a calorie is a unit of heat, guess what?

More thermogenesis = more calories burned

=

Less bodyfat.

Pretty cool stuff this thermogenesis.

In fact thermogenesis is the foundation of my upcoming handbook “The Radical Fatloss Blueprint.” Out in late February.

I’m giving this book away for freee for 21 days to anyone who owns a copy of “The Every Other Day Diet.”

The book comes out in late February… and it is… well, radical.

Up to 21 pounds in 21 days.

But you can only do it for 21 days. Fair deal, right?

If you want the book for freee, make sure you have “Every Other Day Diet” so I can send it to you the last week of February.

Get EODD here –

http://losevisceralfat.net/spices <— more thermogenesis, less bodyfat

For now, here’s the spices that work the best to help you burn bodyfat:

1. Capsaicin, the compound gives red chili pepper its heat, increased energy via heat expenditure by up to 23% after ingesting it at breakfast.

2. Black Pepper increases body heat (thermogenesis) by bonding to TRPV1 receptors in the brain.

3. Turmeric has both anti-cancer and pro-thermogenic support. Best of two worlds if you ask me.

Combine these three spices:  Red chili pepper, black pepper and turmeric, and use them liberally (as you can handle them) on your lunch and dinner meals.

Just be careful not to overdo the spices, otherwise you’ll end up with more heartburn than fatburn.

I’ll be including FAR more powerful ways to burn bodyfat radically in “The Radical Fatloss Blueprint” — and you can get your copy free the last week of February if you own Every Other Day Diet.

Good stuff.

I wanted to give you this today. It’s an  excerpt from Dr. Lucille’s fantastic book,  “Creating and Maintaing Balance.”

Can You Gain Muscle and Burn Fat at the Same Time?

Aug 5th

– By Jon Benson, Author of “7 Minute Muscle”
Many fitness pros just plain don’t believe that you can burn fat while building muscle at the same time. Every time I read an article by some doctor or expert claiming it’s “biologically impossible” to gain muscle on a hypocaloric diet (a diet low in calories) I just laugh.

I do more than make claims – I have proved this to be true many times. I’ve had my body fat hydrostatically measured during several peaks. In all but one I showed an increase of muscle mass and a decrease of body fat during a 12-16 week period. The one time I didn’t show an increase in muscle mass when was I was training the most in the gym. That may not make sense right now, but it will in a moment.

Reducing Tummy Fat

Jul 13th

In the quest to reduce visceral fat, many people have found some favorable results by using one simple trick. Without even changing overall caloric intake, they speed up their metabolism by eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. In other words, instead of consuming three huge meals, they have 5 or six smaller meals 2 1/2 to 3 hours apart.

This makes a lot of sense when you look at the way people in Europe and Asia eat and you realize that they tend to have much lower rates of obesity in their populations.

When this method has resulted in losing some weight, many people are very happy with and are able to maintain this habit for life. If however, you are still plateauing in your quest to lose visceral fat, an additional modification in the diet may be necessary. Alternating your diet days and you might just take your weight loss goals to the next level. It’s also always helpful to combine a strategic diet plan with an effective workout routine so you can build some muscle, speed up your metabolism and stay fit.

Lose Visceral Fat: an easy trick

When we are experiencing an abundance of belly fat, it’s also an indication of overall excess bodyfat. Chances are, that the visible fat on your gut is a good indicator that it’s accumulating in less visible areas of your body, most dangerously underneath the abdomen.

Along with a solid resistance training program to increase muscle mass and an effective fat burning diet that won’t make you miserable, other easy trick to speed up your metabolism is to drink water. Chances are you aren’t drinking enough. The colder the better. If you drink a gallon of ice-cold water a day, it can help you burn some extra calories. Also, it keeps you full and helps reduce your tendency to snack. Use this simple trick along with a good diet that minimizes processed foods, and you will be well on your way to your goal to lose visceral fat.

Changing The Apple-Shape to Live Longer

Jul 12th

Here is the question of the century: How do you lose belly fat? All too often, the quick answer is, “suffer.” In this article, you will find a more thorough answer the question how do you burn tummy fat. It is true having a flat, firm stomach can make one look sexier. But sex appeal aside, research has also revealed that losing visceral fat is one of the most critical steps you can take to stay healthy and live longer.

It may seem obvious that excess fat is unhealthy, you might not be aware that where the fat accumulates is key to health. Individuals who have the most fat in the abdomen (an “apple shaped body”) are at much higher risk of diabetes and heart disease than people whose bodies are, “pear shaped” (higher fat buildup in the thighs, hips and buns). It’s a no-brainer that the best way to get rid of that protruding gut is to eat properly and get some regular exercise. Additionally, more and more research indicates that the fastest method for burning visceral fat is by building muscle to speed up your metabolism. This can be accomplished by combining aerobic exercise with resistance training.

However, all the exercise in the world will not do you much good without doing some planning in the grocery store in the kitchen. Although we could all stand to reduce our caloric intake by reducing and eliminating processed foods that contain sugar and flour, it’s important that this approach is not over done. When you have too much of a caloric deficit, you can end up going the opposite direction of your goal to lose visceral fat. Plus, constantly depriving yourself can make you cranky and it can lead to binge eating! So what’s a good compromise? A diet that tricks your metabolism by alternating the days you eat a reduced caloric intake with days where you can treat yourself! To really find out more about this alternating daily diet plan, click here. In other words one just doesn’t have to reduce calories to lose weight.

Losing Visceral Fat

Visceral fat, also known as tummy fat, belly fat, the spare tire or beer gut isn’t just unsightly. This abdominal bulge is also hazardous to your health. Visceral fat can contribute to developing, amongst other problems diabetes, hypertension and osteoporosis.

Luckily it’s possible to lose that spare tire through exercise and diet. However, it is all to common for people to merely attempt a regimen of caloric deprivation, only to find that they aren’t losing that belly fat. In fact, this sort of approach can not only result in no fat loss, but it can make you gain weight and more visceral fat.

Although generally speaking,  aiming for a caloric deficit is always a good thing for you overall health and when you are trying to burn excess bodyfat, going about it improperly can ultimately slow your metabolism down, which result in weight gain. Additionally, your body can get stressed and will start producing the, “stress hormone,” cortisol. Guess what cortisol does? It tells your body to store fat. Also, constant caloric deprivation tends to make us want to binge on food, usually large amounts of the wrong food. This ultimately sabotages our goal to burn off that spare tire.

To lose visceral fat, it’s best to trick your metabolism. How do you do that? By alternating caloric deficit days with caloric loading days. On deficit days, if you stick to a very specific diet, it’s possible to burn visceral fat and still enjoy eating the things you like on caloric loading days.
